  • Scam Advice

It can unfortunately occur that scammers misuse the trivago brand, logos and/or domain, falsely presenting themselves as trivago employees, affiliates, agents or representatives to offer fictitious employment opportunities at trivago. Under these false pretences, they may try to get money from you.

trivago is an online accommodation search platform and will never ask for money, upfront payments (neither as “traditional payment” nor in cryptocurrency), or otherwise, in exchange for fictitious employment opportunities at trivago. Any such offer that claims to be from trivago is fraudulent.

Such defrauding offers and claims are usually received via social networking services (SNS) such as Whatsapp and Telegram, text messaging, the internet, phone, etc.

See below for claims these scammers may make. Please note, this is a non-exhaustive list:
    • It may propose a job offer or task to work on trivago platform in exchange for an upfront payment
    • You may be told to invest money to earn commissions/bonus
    • You may be told to deposit money in order to withdraw after completing a task
In any case, disregard any written or oral requests for a job offer that you believe to be fraudulent, or suspicious. For up-to-date information about our job postings please check out our Careers Page.
We’re taking a number of actions to stop these fraudsters such as measures based on our IP rights as well as contacting the police as best as we can.

See below for the advice we can provide:

    • Contact your bank/payment provider to see if they can help with regards to a charge-back or to cancel the transfer as soon as possible. Tell them that there has been a fraud and the details of the account that the money has been transferred to
    • Contact your local police/authorities, tell them that you were a victim of fraud and give them all the documents relating to the scam (such as messages, screenshots)
    • Contact the bank that the money was sent to. This can be determined by the bank account details that are provided by the scammer
    • Be vigilant. Don’t be duped by logos, domains, email addresses, imagery or text that sounds like trivago
    • Don’t call unsolicited numbers: trivago is an online accommodation metasearch, so we don’t take bookings over the phone nor ask payments directly
    • Do not make a payment to anyone claiming to be trivago neither as traditional payment nor in cryptocurrency
    • Never reveal passwords, personal information or bank details over email, phone, messaging platforms on your phone like Whatsapp, Telegram or instant message. Similarly, be wary of clicking links and if you believe something to be a scam email and don’t open any attachments
    • More generally when paying for things online, in many countries using a credit card typically gives consumers greater protection should something go wrong
